Press reviews:

Turandot

“[…] you can understand Thomas Paul’s unconditional passion for this woman, like Calaf in love every moment. With his tenor voice, which is captivating throughout the range, he inspires us not only in the famous aria „Nessun dorma” [.. .]”

Franziska Stürz, June 23, 2019, on the show BR-Klassik

“Thomas Paul wins in the great role of Prince Calaf in terms of acting, with a tenor voice that is captivating in every key; sings the difficult world aria „Nessun dorma” with balanced timbre and confidence; it becomes a wonderful climax for the audience.”

Daniela Zimmermann, IOCO Criticism Immling Festival

”[…] and because Møller had in Thomas Paul a rightfully confident tenor partner in the role of Calaf, who crowns his impressive debut with the brilliant “Nessun dorma” aria. […]”

Tobias Hell, June 24, 2019, Munich Merkur

„[…] the Austrian Thomas Paul, as Calaf, also knows how to convince with his powerful tenor voice and not only impresses in the famous aria „Nessun dorma”.[…]”

Thorsten Große, Orpheus September/October 2019

Nabucco

„Austrian tenor Thomas Paul sang Fenena’s unfortunate lover with a lot of expression, emotion and always confident in the high notes and vocal assertiveness. A powerful performance that was greeted with much applause by the audience […]”

Detlef Obens, The Opera Magazine 03/2018

„[…] the powerful Verdian tenor, Thomas Paul as Ismaele[…]”

Julia Gaß, Ruhrnews March 11, 2018

Eugene Onegin

„Tenor Thomas Paul played and Lenski sang and can count last night’s performance as a grand personal success.

His big aria at the beginning of the duel scene was charmingly sung. And it was not the only aspect at the highest level of interpretation.

The audience deservedly celebrated him with many cheers for the emotional way in which he played his role.”

Detlef Obens, The Opera Magazine 3 December 2017

Arabella

The new tenor hero

„However, Arabella’s Rosenkavalier is Matteo, whom Dortmund’s new tenor hero Thomas Paul woos the girl with a Herculean voice.”

Julia Gaß, Ruhrnews 25 September 2017

New crowd favorite

“The group of first-class sopranos was surpassed by a tenor. With new ensemble member Thomas Paul, Dortmund has a new crowd favorite, a powerful Verdian and Puccinian tenor that was at its peak in „Nessun Dorma” with the vocal power of Pavarotti. „

Ruhr News, 2 September 2017

“[…] while Karl-Heinz Lehner as Caspar desperately tries to save his neck and Thomas Paul as the inexperienced Max is given to the devil. […] Lehner convinces as Caspar, with a dark bass voice[, and Paul equips Max with a bright tenor voice.

[…]

With other excerpts from Puccini’s operas, Thomas Paul makes a brilliant debut as a new member of the Dortmund Opera ensemble. In Cavaradossi’s famous aria „E lucevan le stelle” from Tosca, in which the painter recalls his brief love affair with the singer Tosca shortly before the performance, Paul inhales with tenor brilliance and shapes the high notes cleanly and effortlessly. In „Nessun dorma” from Turandot he even manages to take things further. When he brings out „vinceró” at the end, the audience can’t hold back and cheers exultantly until the orchestra finishes its part. Afterwards, Paul gets a standing ovation.”

Thomas Molke, online music magazine

Tosca

„Tenor Thomas Paul’s singing as Cavaradossi was slightly dark, less heroic, more youthful, and also had lyrical power.”

Das Opernglas 10/2016, B. Gruhl

Iolanata

„Thomas Paul, the ensemble’s new tenor, impresses in this role with his balanced and powerful voice.”

TLZ November 2, 2015, N. Tietze

Die verkaufte Braut

„Especially when it came to the powerful voices of the truly beautiful couple Marie and Hans, the orchestra lost many times. What (…) and the Austrian, who was a member of the Vienna Volksoper ensemble between 2012-2015, offered the public vocally and actingly, was of course of great class!”

The New Merker 02/2017, K. Voigt

„The big star of this premiere evening is Thomas Paul in the role of Hans. The Austrian tenor plays and sings his role with much mischief and humor. As a negotiator, he is witty and charming with a mischievous look in his eye. »

Der Neue Merker, 12/2016 L. Gawritschenko and T. Janda

„As Wenzel, Thomas Paul, in his fresh, bright tenor voice, delivered a successful mix of hapless awkwardness as well as occasional mirth and audacious naivete without coming across as an idiot.”

Das Opernglas 04/2011, W. Kutzschbach

Wozzeck

„This ruthless concept also includes the impressive Thomas Paul in the role of Tambourmajor”.

Opernwelt April 2017, U. Friedrich

Der Vogelhändler

„And then there was Thomas Paul, as the bird seller Adam, who, like the whole production, began to give more and more. In the end, he let himself shine so much that the audience enthusiastically demanded „again, again, again”.

Tyrolean daily, W. Otter
