Prof. Magdalena Ursu – violin

Studies

The violonist and professor Magdalena Ursu graduated brilliantly from the University of Music in Bucharest. She graduated two faculties of the University:

  • the Faculty of Composition, Musicology and Musical Pedagogy – Musical Pedagogy Section, and
  • the Faculty of Performing Arts – Violin Section.

Pedagogical activity

Prof. Magdalena Ursu has almost 40 years of teaching experience.

At present, she heads the Violin and Supplemental Strings Department at The Dinu Lipatti National College of Arts in Bucharest.
Her students have won hundreds of prizes at national and international competitions. One of the most prestigious prizes is the one won by Ștefan Aprodu at the George Enescu International Competition.

Recently, the students she has guided have brought home diplomas from famous competitions like:

  • the Dorothy Kitchen & Erich Bergel International Competition,
  • Remember Enescu International Competition,
  • Melos International Competition (Rome, Italy),
  • Grand Prize Virtuoso International Competition (London, England),
  • The Muse (Santorini, Greece) Great Composers Competition (Germany),
  • Arthur Grumiaux International Competition (Brussels, Belgium), and many others.

Famous violinists guided by Prof. Magdalena Ursu

Established artists like

  • George Tudorache (Belgium),
  • Florin Croitoru (Japan),
  • Bianca Tarabega (Denmark),
  • Nicolae Ciocan (Spain),
  • Georgeta Iordache (Germany),
  • Ștefan Aprodu (Germany)

Also, Radu Florescu, Dragoș Rușanu, Luca Amarandei or Helena Iacob have given recitals from an early age on famous stages including in Western Europe or Japan.

The students under her guidance are also very active, often as soloists and members of orchestras.

Founder of Dinu Lipatti Youth Orchestra

Prof. Magdalena Ursu founded The Dinu Lipatti Youth Orchestra (OTDL) in collaboration with Ștefan Aprodu. The orchestra performed a whole series of concerts even during the pandemic and many other afterwards.
