Meet Dan Wu: Jury Member of International Piano & Organ Competition

Prof. Dan Wu is a Jury member for the International Piano & Organ Competition of Festival 4 Arts. She is Organ Associate Professor at Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Vice President, Shanghai Branch — American Organists Association


Academic Profile

Dan Wu is an internationally respected organist, educator, and artistic leader. She serves as Organ Associate Professor in the Department of Modern Instruments & Percussion at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and as Vice President of the Shanghai Branch of the American Organists Association. Her work bridges performance excellence, academic research, and international cultural exchange.


Education and Artistic Formation

Dan Wu received her foundational training at the Attached Middle School of Shenyang Conservatory of Music (1992–1998) in China.

In 2002, she began her academic career as an organ teacher in the Modern Percussion Instrument Department of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

From 2008 to 2010, she pursued advanced studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, earning a Master of Music (MMus) degree.

In 2020, she was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and continued her professional development at the Stuttgart School of Music and Performing Arts in Germany, studying under Professor Ludger Lohmann.


Performance Career

Dan Wu has performed extensively as a soloist and accompanist in leading concert venues across China, including:

  • National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Beijing
  • Forbidden City Concert Hall, Beijing
  • Gulangyu Concert Hall
  • Henan Art Center
  • He Luting Concert Hall
  • Shanghai Oriental Art Center

She has also contributed to media and cultural outreach, performing organ music for an organ documentary produced by Shanghai Oriental TV Station.

A dedicated mentor, Dan Wu has guided numerous outstanding students who have won international competition awards. Many of her students have continued their studies in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, reflecting her strong impact on global music education.

In 2023, Dan Wu translated and published the Chinese edition of Organ Technique: Modern and Early, contributing significantly to organ pedagogy and scholarly resources for Chinese-speaking musicians.
