Master DAN CAVASSI – cello, is a member of the Jury in the Music Contest – Bass String Instruments of the Festival 4 Arts.

Studies and Professional activity

DAN CAVASSI graduated from the “George Enescu” National College of Music in the class of Prof. Paul Ochialbi and George Cocea, and the Bucharest Academy of Music in the class of Prof. George Larosevici. He specialized in Paris with Antonio Janigro, then in Geneva with Pierre Fournier. Since 1984 he has been the first cellist at the „George Enescu” Philharmonic, where he still works. As a member of the prestigious quartet „Music” he performs all over the world, participating in famous festivals (Salzburg, Bregenz, Rome, Paris, La Rochelle etc.). In 1980 DAN CAVASSI founded the quartet „ProMuzica”, immediately recognized by obtaining several national and international awards.

He frequently appears in various chamber ensembles and as a soloist in recitals accompanied by piano or by the Bucharest orchestras (“George Enescu” National Philharmonic, National Radio Chamber Orchestra), as well as with the philharmonic orchestras from other cities of the country. His artistic activity is completed with recordings on television, radio and for CDs.

International Collaborations

DAN CAVASSI currently performs modern and contemporary music, collaborating as a soloist with prestigious bands and musical institutions abroad – such as the Bonn Opera, „Neues Theater für Musik” – Bonn, „Festival Ensemble” – Heidelberg, „Profectio initiative” – Freiburg, „Phoenix” – Basel ensemble, „Ensemble für neue musik” Zurich etc. He is a founding member of the contemporary music ensemble „devotioModerna” (2005). Together with the clarinetist Cristian Mancaş and the pianist Viniciu Moroianu, he founded the trio „Pro musica” in 2010. In 2005 he was decorated by the Romanian Presidency with the medal Cultural Order 1st class for his entire artistic activity.
